Anna Fuchs

I began my academic journey with a Bachelor's degree in Biology at LMU Munich, followed by a Master's degree in the same subject at Technical University Munich. This included time at DKFZ Heidelberg and Linköping University in Sweden. I specialised in genetics and cell biology during my Master's degree, further developing my theoretical and laboratory expertise in virology, genetics and cell culture techniques. It was during my Master's thesis that I first started using high-throughput sequencing methods.
I am now pursuing my PhD in the Längst Lab, where I am focusing on chromatin organisation and dynamics in different pathogens using various sequencing approaches, such as MNase-seq, RNA-seq, and ChIP-seq experiments. For this, I have two main projects. My first project investigates chromatin dynamics during the environmental adaptation of the parasite Leishmania donovani, which is a unique organism as it can quickly adapt to environmental changes due to its very high genome plasticity. This is why it can also be used as a model to study cancer. The second project aims to elucidate the mechanisms of efficient transcription activation at the early stages of adenoviral infection.
Through my research, I hope to provide new insights into the general biology and pathogenesis of these pathogens, which could have implications for developing more efficient therapies.
