Adenovirus Research

Adenoviruses, known for their low pathogenicity and technological approachability, have become instrumental in many therapeutic applications, including as vaccination vector platform during the recent SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Central to their efficacy is the remarkably efficient delivery and expression of their genetic material.

We aim to uncover the viral DNA packaging and its dynamics during the infection cycle. Knowledge of viral DNA organisation may allow to generate better gene therapy vectors in the future.

We use advanced microscopy techniques and genome structure analyses to map the position of the pVII packaging proteins on DNA, the de-condensation of the viral DNA, and the specific exchange of pVII by host nucleosomes prior transcription. These studies are  performed in collaboration with Prof. Harald Wodrich (University of Bordeaux, France).

Currently we are elucidating the DNA signals that guide viral DNA packaging by the pVII protein and follow the path of viral capsid maturation until release from the host.
